I want to buy a camcorder ? - hard drive disk camcorder great camcorder

With a view to buy my first camcorder. I want to save something to my children only two years "cute" moments. My husband gave me a budget of $ 200. So I went to eBay. I have a Sony DVD300 Handycam for $ 175. Is this a good deal? I have also heard that if I download videos to my computer and reuse the discs lose quality. Should I try to find a model of the disk? I am not working very good with computers, so the type of hard drive scares me! Any help or suggestions would be great! Thank you all:)
